Grand Re-Opening of Indyra Originals
Get the maximum style
OK, so Ive not blogged up for a while and not really been in world for a good couple of months. However I was searching through flickr the other day and admired all the new fashion samples hitting SL for summer. My friend Laya Fallatio blogged up recently regarding some cool summer dresses from Reale, so I thought I would follow in her foot steps and see what SL had to offer within the 2009 trend of maxi dresses.
Digits have a good selection of maxi dresses in an array of bright summer colours. The flex on them is amazing and great for photography. They arent necessarily cheap but the quality is amazing and all prims fit perfectly.
So based on Laya's recommendation, I popped onto Xstreet and searched for Reale. They have some wonderful maxi dresses. Stunning designs, incredible colours and absolutely perfect for all occasion. Prices start from 200L for maximum style this summer.

Redgrave Exclusive Release

LE.LOOK!
now have the only Redgrave satelite store in SL, in which there are exclusive items, skins in particular of some of our old favourites , Hana and Venus. So for old times sake, I had to purchase atleast one of these items.Meet The Designer Indyra Seigo
She IM's me, prompting for an early start, so I TP her to the Namaste Isle Model Troupe Apartment, that she kindly erected for her staff, to chill and entertain friends if we so wanted. She arrives, dressed in her newest creation 'La Capitaine'
Stylecard La Capitaine NEW RELEASE
Its clear from the start of the interview that Indy's time is precious, juggling real life family engagements with secondlife commitments. So we commence with fairly generic questions, both of us sprawlled out on the couches happily and comfortably chatting away.
JC:- You started SL in June 2006, When did you start creating clothes ?
IS :- July 2006, one month after being born. It was my intention from the start to design clothes. I have a design background in real life, though my history is with canvas painting, drawing pin up girls mainly ( she laughs ) . I started on a small parcel of land with only 1000 prim allocation filled with predominately clubwear and lingerie.
JC:- Your designs are so varied , what is your design philsophy?
IS : I like to think I design whatever moves me that day. I like everything. I know SL shoppers are up for just about anything. I keep up with RL and SL fashion trends and try to reach the widest demographic. I am not a niche market designer, that is intentional. I like to do what suits most, but most of all keep it real.
JC:- What rl inspirations influence your work ?
IS : First and foremost, my genelogy and my family background.
Editor's note - At this point in the interview, Indy talks fondly of her family and in particular both her grandmothers who died of cancer. Namaste Isle, Indy's SL Main Store location, was erected in April 2008 and dedicated in memory to her grandmother who died of cancer in February of that year. Born in St Louis, Missouri, Namaste is based on her home town. With its french colonial architecture and its downtown blues style. She talks affectionately about the store being inspired by her grandmothers closet and refers to her matriarch as 'a classy and fierce accessorizer and goes on to say, 'she was amazing and that is why Namaste oozes with casual elegance'
JC:-What designers have inspired you within the SL community ?
IS : My general rule of thumb is to stay out of people's stores so that I don't become influenced, even subconsiously. There are some amazing designers in SL. Many of these individuals are highlighted in my picks and are listed for their work ethic, their consistency and their personal drive for success. All of them have lent me a hand in someway shape or form - and i really appreciate the support.

JC:-Compared to many designers, we hardly ever see IO on the runway , why is that ?
IS:- Honestly, in the past, I just didn't have the time, but this is good that we are talking about this. As you know we recently restructured the staff, so in the future, we can incorporate our model troupe in shows at Namaste. The new model manager, whoever that will be, will be organising shows more often.
To me, its all about balance. I do shows, but usually with venues of which im a partner in-ie have a shop on site. I work a lot with shows for charity. I'm an avid supporter of Relay For Life. I will be releasing a dress in the forthcoming months and all proceeds will go to RFL indefinitely.
JC:-What is your favourite outfit that youve made ?
IS:-Oh gosh. Well I have 3, one from each collection. From the clubwear, it has to be 'Rampage' in Leopard. This was probably the hardest thing I have ever made. It looks simple, but since I create all my own textures, it was painstaking. I dont use templates. Everything is 100% hand-drawn. From the casuals, even though its not yet released it's 'La Capitaine' and from formal it has to be 'Mystere'.
Stylecard 'Rampage'
JC:- When do you think Indyra Originals became a key player in the fashion world of SL and why ?
IS:-All I can tell you is that I keep my fingers on the pulse of sl fashion, and try my hardest to provide what the people want. Originality is a must. That is why I design all my own clothes and everything is 100% hand-drawn. I find it disappointing the amount of clothing prefabs that can be found on xstreet.
Stylecard 'Flirt'
JC:- What kind of a person is Indyra Seigo ? I imagine you to be quite shy and retiring !
IS:-Laughs out Loud ! People might think I'm a bit on the brash side at times. I have a big personality with big opinions, but Im pragmatic and I realize not everyone needs or wants to know what I'm thinking all the time ( Laughs some more ). Girl, Ive hurt peoples' feelings!, not on purpose. I am headstrong though and decisive. However its easy for me to let go of the reigns. I dont micro manage and this is why I pick my staff so closely.
JC:- Talking about your staff, you have a dedicated model troupe, many of whom have been with you for nearly a year now. What do you think it takes to become an Indy Model ?
IS:-Indy girls need to be confident, reliant, a little headstrong and self motivated. Everyone needs to be able to run the show if Adzy ( Indyra CMO ) or I am not available. Everyone knows my expectations. I trust all of them to represent me. They all have fashion savvy and all have good connections within the SL fashion community. Many of our girls have developed their own businesses in SL, from clothing, to photography and styling. They are not only models. but professional people in their own right.
I did plan to increase the model troupe at the beginning of the year, but then realised we have everything we need in the team we have.
Editors note, I am now conscious that Indyra has been sitting with me chatting for almost an hour and a half. She speaks freely and is laid back and down to earth in her general approach. I stress my concern about time. She reconfirms she is more than happy chatting to me, as I ask her the last question of the morning .....
JC:- So what new collections can we expect to see from you in the next couple of months ?
IS:-Well, I'm holding back on releasing right now because I'm creating a new spring/summer collection. I may trickle a couple of the pieces, but I will release monthly. I will definitely release 'La Capitaine' as a teaser to the new collection.
As I wrap up the interview, I must say how much I enjoyed myself. I feel privileged that Indy felt comfortable enough to share some personal details with me regarding her family life. More importantly my whole perception of her as an individual has changed. Sometimes, it only takes a small indepth conversation with someone to change your complete opinion of a person. As Indy TPed out to manage her rl, I stayed and reflected on the interview.
In short, Indyra Seigo, a fun loving, family orientated gal with headstrong characteristics and an eye for fashion. A style icon who is extremely relaxed and comfortable in her own skin.
It was a pleasure and one I hope to repeat in the near future. Thanks Indy x

When words are not enough ......
Many of you are aware, I am in a solid SL relationship. I have been lucky enough to share my SL experiences with my Mr K for the past 22 months. I dont think either of us ever thought that we would be so reliant on one another and that SL without each other would be a very dark and cold place.
Valentines Day in RL, I treat with scepticism. It's commercial paradise :- shop owners increase their prices for the sake of telling someone I love you. It seems that SL is no exception. Apparently accordingly to my husband, flowers, chocolates and all things that spell L O V E increased in value with valentines approaching.
Kasen and I didnt really discuss valentines day this year. We muttered something one day about not buying presents for each other and that sufficed. On sunday, Kasen left me a msg in world and on skype.
Swimming in Style
(Baiastice) Tiger
So for me , the only choice for beachware is Baiastice. Most of the designs are one piece, but Ive noticed recently Sissy branching out creating more two piece items. So next time you're asked to create a beach look for a casting call or competition, I would suggest heading to Baia to give you a complete look without having to think about piecing any inventory items together. Its quick, simple and straight out of a beautiful gift box.
Watch out there's a new kid on the block ....
I like it when I receive random emails from designers, especially ones I do not know or are relatively new to the SL grid. I was recently approached in world by Jura Shepherd who represents Shiki Designs on behalf of designer Shinichi Mathy.
Shinichi is a relatively new designer who, in real life, is Hawaiian born but now resides in Tokyo. His designs are created from multiple disciplines but his signature is hand painting textures on traditional Washi paper.
Now Im always a little weary from random people sending me clothes. Experience shows that most of these designers show little imagination of fashion or creativity, but I must say Shiki Designs has a slight edge. The two outfits that were sent to me ( Shiki Kuroneko Dress & Shiki Tokyo Night Dress) I absolutely loved:- casual boarding on ladies that lunch, but definitely high end fashion. Personally I am not a great fan of black. I wear it in RL, but in SL I can get away with wearing vivid , vibrant colours. Nevertheless, I was not disappointed with my two gifts. Attention to detail was evident. The Kuroneko Dress below has an attachment skirt piece, you know the ones that normally look odd which I despise and never purchase, but I have to give credit where credit is due, this prim fitted perfectly and didnt look odd when I walked, so thats one extra point in my book.
Model Jula Carnell , wearing:- Shiki Kuroneko Dress.
The Shiki Tokyo Night Dress below, Ooooo , was wonderful. The skirt has been designed with so much attention to detail. With 94 prims you can see why. No prim is out of place and it lays beautifully on the body with flex. Its like a party girls dream outfit. The upper part of the dress can best be described as a wool texture with beautiful fur trim. I am a girl who loves fur trim. It makes me feel glamorous. So when I put this on for the first time, I cooed like a kid in a candy store.
So what do I think of the store ? Overall I was very impressed. The store is pretty large and covers two floors. Casual / Formal on the ground and Beach on the first. One thing Im pleased about is they sell mens items too. There are certainly not enough mens apparel and I do feel sorry for the men of SL. No wonder they are all converting to female avatars, at least they get more choice. The mens casual's are very nice and lots of choice. There are lots of vibrant colours with an array of t-shirts and cardigan twin sets, a must have for mixing and matching. Shinichi's Hawaiieen roots are evident when you make your way upstairs. The mens section offers boardie shorts and fantastic hawaian shirts for as little as $60.
From a female perspective, this is certainly at the moment geared towards the gentlemen of SL. There are very few female pieces to choose from, excluding the beachwear upstairs. The few female items that Shinichi offers however are kind to the eye , well made and look slightly different from the norm. Attention to detail is his forte. I say branch out Shinichi, make some more female items, like the ones you have instore and preferably not all in black ;)
Watch out there is a new kid on the block and his designs can only get better !!
Model Jula Carnell , wearing:- Shiki Tokyo Night Dress
How much will it set you back in lindens ? Anything between $60 - $400, inexpensive quality :)
LE.LOOK! Stylist Search - February 2009
LE.LOOK! is excited to announce a competition where your style is appreciated! We are asking you to be creative, fun and enthusiastic, bringing new concepts of fashion into view! This is your time to be LE.LOOK!
This is NOT a voting competition , Yuck I hate those damn things. This is an opportunity for you to submit photographs of yourself, mixing and matching and showing your LE.LOOK! Style.

So I thought Id try this at home. Trying to encapsulate uniqueness is so difficult to do. Sometimes, when Im styling I think of the occasion Im dressing for. I wanted Sex and The City, ladies that lunch. Nothing too formal but enough accessories to ascertain that look.
The LeeZu pants are a dream and a must have. Optional extra of high waisted , which I absolutely adore at the moment. Im a bit of a LeeZu pant fan. Too many people shop at LeeZu for her Noir or formal collection, but her casuals are so different and ultimately can be mixed and match with anything if your imagination allows.
Now my new found find is DP Serendipity. O M G , heaven calling! Shirts, Jumpers, Jackets. All the things you need to accessorise. Masuri Dryke. founder of DP sent me so many items in world to try, I couldnt decide what to wear, but I knew as soon as I visited her store at LE.LOOK!, I was mixing and matching DP with LeeZu.
Never forget a bag, especially if you are photographing for a competition. Bags are often forgotten items. They can absolutely make or maybe in some cases break an outfit. This tote camel with a hand held script is from TRUTH at LE.LOOK! And I thought only Truth sold hair, pffft, so much I know !

Mixing LE.LOOK! with Zullay Designs & Decoy
Styling oneself is never an easy task in SecondLife. People have their own idea of style and fashion. However, if I have a list of preferred designers, you can guarantee it will be on someone else's too. Having been to many a casting call, I have observed that many people tend to wear 'off the rack' items. Depending upon the look you are trying to create, whether its to impress or stand out from the hoard of models, giving yourself a little bit of individuality is always a good thing.
Mixing and matching is never an option for some. With a little bit of creative thinking, you can make that look your own.

The outfit 'off the rack' looked great, but I decided to put the challenge to the test, to see what fashion visions I could jumble together but still make it unique. Fortunately Zullay Designs and Decoy are right next to each other at LE.LOOK!, so putting pieces together was easy with subtle camera movements in between stores.
Inspiration and innovation doesnt have to be expensive. For $735, I have managed to discover atleast 3 ensembles, of which many of the items can be put together with other designers. From trendy to chic, anything is possible with a little bit of imagination.
